Penguins Drop Contest to Samford

Orlando, Fla. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 contest to Samford on Monday afternoon at Sanlando Park.

The Penguins (5-5) won the doubles point against the Bulldogs (7-6), but dropped four singles contests.

At No. 1 doubles, Danylo Veremiechuk and Joao Garretto won 7-5 over Sami Kirberg and Jack Lyttle. At No. 2 doubles, Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis earned a 7-6 victory against Rossouw Norval and Daniel Orlita. 

In singles play, Samford won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. YSU pushed the other three singles matches to a third set. At No. 1, Veremiechuk lost a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 contest to Norval. At No. 5, Yossi Dahan's match against Max Rebol was unfinished. Dahan dropped the first set 7-5 before winning the second 7-5. The third set was tied 2-2. At No. 6, Erik Gran was tied at a set apiece dropping the first set 6-3 before winning the second 7-6.

YSU returns to action on Tuesday against Creighton. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
