The Youngstown State men's tennis team faces UIC on Friday and IUPUI on Saturday in a pair of key Horizon League conference matches.
Friday's match against the Flames is set for 11 a.m. at the Western Reserve Racquet Club while Saturday's contest is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Avalon Athletic Club in Boardman.
Entering the final two matches, the Penguins (10-7 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League) have an outside shot of earning a piece of the Horizon League regular-season title. YSU trails Cleveland State and UIC in the standings as both teams are 4-0. The Guins need a win over the Flames (5-12, 4-0) and IUPUI (13-8, 3-1) and at least one loss by the Vikings, who play the same two teams, to earn a share of the HL title. CSU owns the tiebreaker with the Penguins following a 4-3 win earlier this year.
Dahan owns a career record of 51-42 during his four-year YSU career. In spring dual matches he has posted a 32-22 overall record. In Horizon League play he has recorded a career-record of 13-6. Veremiechuk has an impressive 54-26 overall mark in just two-and-a-half years at YSU. He is 35-19 in spring dual matches and is 10-8 in HL play with all 18 contests coming at No. 1 or No. 2 singles. Purser has won 38 career matches, of with 25 have some in the spring. He has seven Horizon League wins in his career, three of which have come this year.
The Guins are coming off an impressive two-match stretch after picking up wins over Northern Kentucky (5-2) and at Wright State (6-1). YSU has been strong in doubles play in league matches this season posting a perfect 9-0 mark in completed contests.
- The Penguins have won the last four matches against the Flames. In the all-time series, the Guins are 7-18 against UIC.
- YSU picked up a 4-3 victory at IUPUI last April. It was the first win in the series by the Penguins in six all-time meetings.
