The Youngstown State men's tennis team will be in action Friday through Sunday at the Viking Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
Doubles action begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with singles play getting underway at 10:30 a.m. Other teams in the three-day tournament are Binghamton, Wright State, Cleveland State, Butler and Northern Illinois.
In singles play, Danylo Veremeichuk is the No. 8 seed while Joao Garretto is the 14th-seeded player in the 48-individual field. Both players recieve a bye to second round play which is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. Veremichuk will play the winner of the Clark Bilinovich (CSU)-Tiago Lourenco (BING) match at 2 p.m. while Garretto will face the winner of the Victor Spolidoria (NIU)-William Morton (WSU) contest at 4:30 p.m.
Early-round singles matches for YSU include Vasilis Vardakis taking on Sebastian Quiros of Binghamton; Pol Virgili Blanco taking on Anthony Kanam; Eric Gran playing Wright State's Carlos Sanchez, Yossi Dahan matching up against Cleveland State's William Malm; Luke Purser tangles with Javier De La Villa of Wright State and Baher El Mekawi is matched up against Bor Muzar.
The round of 16 in singles begins at noon on Saturday with the semfinals and finals being played on Sunday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
In doubles matches, Purser and Vardakis match up against Binghamton's Dylan Friedman and Ludovico Cestarollo in their first match; Mekawi and Blanco will play Butler's Michael Dickson and Ryan Roegner and Dahan and Gran take on NIU's Erich Schuette and Muzar. Garretto and Veremeichuk have received a bye to the round of 16 and will play at 10 a.m.
This is the last tournament of the fall season for the Penguins.
