Softball Closes Out Regular Season Hosting Robert Morris, Visiting Green Bay

The Youngstown State softball team closes out the 2012 regular season when it hosts Robert Morris in a doubleheader, Thursday, May 3, at McCune Park and visits Green Bay in a crucial three-game Horizon League series in Green Bay, Wis.

First pitch of the Penguins-Phoenix doubleheader on Saturday is at 2 p.m. (EDT) while the start time of Sunday's single game has been pushed up to 12 p.m. (EDT).

What's at Stake
* With a win at Green Bay, the Guins will secure a spot in the 2012 Horizon League Softball and be guaranteed a fifth-place.
* With two vitories over the Phoenix, YSU will be guaranteed at least fourth place.
* YSU could move up to third place with three wins over Green Bay and a UIC loss to Wright State this weekend.
* The Guins also have a chance to post just the second 30-win season in school history. Their 27 wins are the fourth-most in school history and are just three wins shy of 30. The school record for wins in a season is 36 set in 2003.

One of Top Offenses in Country
Youngstown State has one of the best offense in the nation. In the most recent NCAA statistics, the Guins rank ninth in batting average (.322), 16th in scoring (5.98 runs per game), 23rd in slugging percentage (.466) and 29th in doubles per game (1.36).

Haley's Comet
Senior Haley Thomas is having one of the best seasons in YSU history. Thomas currently leads the Horizon League and ranks 12th in the nation with a .441 batting average. She also leads the league in hits (64) and doubles (15); is second in runs scored (40), on-base percentage (.503), stolen bases (13); ranks third in slugging percentage (.710) and total bases (103).

Ingalls Nearing RBI Record
Senior Jordan Ingalls is approaching the YSU career runs batted in record. She currently ranks second all-time with 115 and needs four more to tie and five more to break the record of 119 set by Amanda Berry (2001-04).

Record Setting Offense
This season, YSU has already broke the school record for most runs in a season with 263, 43 more than the previous mark of 220 set in 2003, and 231 RBIs. The old RBI record of 198 was set in 2011. They also have 389 hits, which is the second-most in school history and 14 shy of tying the mark of 402 in 2010.

Crozier Reaches 200
Sophomore pitcher Casey Crozier became the sixth pitcher in school history to record at least 200 career strikeouts. Crozier ranks sixth all-time with 203 strikeouts and needs just eight more to move into fifth place.

Ingalls Concluding Outstanding Career
Senior Jordan Ingalls is having the best season of her college career in 2012. Ingalls is currently second in the Horizon League with 61 hits and third with a .401 batting average. A 2011 All-Horizon League First-Team selection, she also ranks fifth with 36 runs scored and seventh with 34 RBIs and a .446 on-base percentage.

Rumph Shaker
Junior catcher Vicky Rumph is also having a career year in 2012. Rumph is batting a career-best .369, which ranks eighth in the Horizon League, with 12 doubles, a triple and four home runs. Her 35 RBIs is a team best and ranks sixth in the league. She also ranks ninth in the Horizon League with 52 hits.

It's Always Sunny in Philly
Senior Kristen Philen is having her best season in her final season as well. Philen is batting a career-best .325 with five home runs, six doubles and 20 runs batted in. She has played particularly well against Horizon League opponents with a .373 batting average and a .610 slugging percentage. Three of her five home runs and five of her six doubles have been in league action.
