Kissimmee, Fla. -- Senior Kristen Philen went 2-for-4 with double and a two-run home run and drove in four runs to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 9-4 win over Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon. The Guins also lost to Fairfield, 4-0, later in the day.
Sophomore Casey Crozier, who picked up her fourth victory of the season, dominated in the circle pitching four scoreless innings of relief with eight strikeouts allowing just two hits.
The Guins, who improve to 9-3 overall, jumped out to an explosive start scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. YSU began the game with four straight singles and Rumph's single to center put the Guins' up 2-0.
Lafayette trimmed the lead down to three scoring four runs off starter Paige Miller, but Philen's two run home run in the top of the fifth ballooned YSU's advantage back to five, 9-4.
Against Fairfield, the Guins were held to just three hits and only one runner reached third base.
Crozier was impressive throwing 3.2 innings of relief striking out three and allowing just one hit.
The Guins take on Army and Columbia on Thursday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
