The Youngstown State softball team plays its final regular-season games at the YSU Softball Field when it hosts Niagara, Thursday, April 24, in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Penguins split a doubleheader against Dayton on April 21, winning, 5-3, in the opener and falling, 5-3, in game two. Head Coach Brian Campbell notched the 400th win of his career in the game-one win. Sophomore Katie Smallcomb and freshmen Darcella Blakey and Brittany Moffatt each had two hits for the Penguins in the win. Senior Casey Crozier struck out a career-high 12 batters to pick up her 14th victory.

Brian Campbell Notches 400th Career Victory
With the win over Dayton, Youngstown State Head Coach Brian Campbell earned the 400th victory of his career. His career mark is 400-299-2 in 14 years. His six-year record at YSU is 115-170-1. The Penguins have also won 93 games since the start of the 2011 season.

Home Cookin'
During the inaugural season of its on-campus facility, Youngstown State has played farely well. The Penguins have played 17 home games and two "neutral-site" games during the 2014 season. In those 19 contests, the Penguins accumulated a record of 10-9. Due to inclement weather in Cleveland, Ohio, the Penguins and Cleveland State played a doubleheader at YSU on March 31 with the Vikings serving as the home team. The Penguins and Vikings split that doubleheader. In the 17 home contests, the Penguins are 9-8 and batting .285 as a team with 67 runs, eight home runs and 63 RBIs.

Ewing Oil
Senior Courtney Ewing owned the Penguins longest hitting streak this season at 18 games from March 11 through April 6. She has now hit safely in 29 of the last 31 games and carries a batting average of .352 (37-for-105) during that span.

Crozier Re-Writing Record Book
Senior pitcher Casey Crozier has etched her name atop three career pitching records this season. Crozier is YSU's all-time leader in wins (55), strikeouts (527) and innins pitched (627.2). Crozier has six career saves and ranks third all-time with 63 complete games and 14 shutouts.

Penguins Tough In Close Ones
One reason for the Penguins' success is that they have been able to pull out the close games. The Penguins are 11-3 in one-run games. In games decided by two runs or less, the Penguins own a 17-9 mark.

Need To Lead After Four
If the Penguins can get through the fourth inning with the lead, there is a good chance they will come out victorious. The Penguins own an 14-2 record when leading after four innings, an 14-0 mark when leading after five and a 15-2 record when leading after six.

Single-Season Marks Vulnerable
There are a couple of YSU single-season records that are on the verge of toppling. Sophomore Miranda Castiglione has scored 37 runs and needs six more to break the single-season record of 42 set by Hailey Thomas in 2012. Castiglione is currently tied for fifth on the list. Senior Casey Crozier is nearing the single-season strikeout record. Crozier is second with 158 and needs 21 more to tie and 22 to break the single-season strikeout record of 179 set by Kelly Murphy in 2003.

Castiglione Among Horizon League Best
Sophomore Miranda Castiglione has been performing among the best in the Horizon League. Castiglione, who is batting .399, leads the league with 55 hits, 37 runs scored and tied for the league lead with 83 total bases. She is third with a .458 on-base percentage, fourth in batting average and fifth in slugging percentage at .601.

Ingalls in the Clutch
Senior Sarah Ingalls has been the Penguins' top run producers. Ingalls leads the team with 26 RBIs and ranks tied for fourth in the Horizon League. More impressively, 14 of Ingalls' 26 runs batted in have come with two outs.

Crozier Tops in Horizon
Senior Casey Crozier is making a case for Horizon League Pitcher of the Year. Crozier leads league in wins (14), strikeouts (158) , batters struck out looking (51), innings pitched (144.2) and games started (23). She also ranks third in earned-run average (2.37).

Penguins Like Em' Juiced
Youngstown State has been flourishing at the plate when the bases are loaded. As a team, the Penguins are batting .352 (19-for-54) when the bases are full. Senior Haley Knight is 4-for-7 in bases-loaded situations while junior Kayla Haslett is 3-for-5 and freshman Sarah Dowd is 3-for-6.
