Softball Gears Up For Four-Game Tourney at Tennessee State This Weekend

First Pitch
The Youngstown State softball team (2-2) begins its second weekend of the season with four games in three days at the Tiger Classic hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 21-23. The Penguins open the tournament against Tennessee State, Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:15 p.m. On Saturday, the Penguins face Indiana State and Dayton at 10 a.m. and Noon, respectively. The Penguins close out the tournament against Western Michigan at 10:30 a.m.
Knight and Day
Senior Haley Knight turned in an outstanding first weekend and helped the Penguins to a 2-2 mark at the USC-Upstate Tournament. Knight was named to the all-tournament team batting .500 with five runs batted in and three runs scored.

Brian Campbell Nearing Coaching Plateaus
Head Coach Brian Campbell is on the verge of two historic coaching marks. Campbell, who has 379 career wins, needs just 21 to reach 400 for his career. Campbell also needs just six more victories for 100 wins at Youngstown State. Campbell owns a career mark of 379-281-2 in 13 years. His six-year record at YSU is 94-152-1. The Penguins have also won 72 games since the start of the 2011 season.

Crozier Nearing Records
Senior pithcer Casey Crozier is nearing a pair of 18-year old YSU pitching records. Crozier ranks second all-time with 378 career strikeouts and needs just nine more to break the record of 386 set by Kim Givens from 1993-96. Crozier ranks third with 42 career wins and needs five more to surpass Givens' total of 46 career victories.

Haslett Homers, Pitches Penguins to Victory
Junior pitcher Kayla Haslett posted one of her best overall performances in the Penguins' 10-2 win over ACC-member Virginia on Feb. 9. Haslett pitched a complete-game five-hitter with three strikeouts. Haslett also hit a solo home run, scored three times and drove in three runs against the Cavaliers.

Up Next
The Penguins are off for a week before heading to Winthrop, S.C. for a four-game tournament, March 7-8. The Penguins take on Marist and Connecticut Friday, March 7 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. On March 8, the Penguins face Winthrop at 3 p.m. and Norfolk State, at 5 p.m.

Slammin' Sam
Senior senior Samantha Snodgrass turned in best season in 2013. Snodgrass was named All-Horizon League First-Team  and batted a team-best .361 with 11 doubles, four home runs and 22 runs batted in. She was also named to the Horizon League All-Tournament.

Castiglione Named to Canadian Junior National Team
Last summer, sophomore Miranda Castiglione was selected to play for the Canadian Junior National Team. She played in the 2013 ISF X Junior Women's World Championship, July 1-7, in Brampton, Ont. Last season, she batted .283 with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, 18 runs batted in and 19 runs scored as a freshman in 2013.
