Crozier Ties All-Time Wins Record, Campbell Earns 100th YSU Win in Sweep at UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. -- Senior pitcher Casey Crozier tied the all-time wins record and Head Coach Brian Campbell earned his 100th victory at YSU as the Penguins softball team swept UNC-Wilmington in a doubleheader. The Penguins won, 1-0, and 6-5.

With the sweep, the Penguins improve to 8-6 on the season. The Penguins and Seahawks will conclude the series with a single game, Wednesday, at 1 p.m.

In the opener, Crozier (5-3) fired a three-hit, complete game shutout with three strikeouts to pick up her fifth victory and second shutout of the season.

Sophomore Miranda Castiglione's two-out single in the top of the sixth inning was all the run support Crozier needed.

The Penguins used a six-run fourth inning to erase a 2-0 lead, and held on for the 6-5 victory after the Seahawks plated two runs in the bottom of the and another in the bottom of the seventh.

Seniors Sarah Ingalls and Haley Knight walked and singled, respectively, and senior Courtney Ewing reached on an error on a sacrifice-bunt attempt to load the bases to lead off the top of the fourth.

Junior Kayla Haslett, who picked up her third win of the year, singled through the left side to score pinch-runner Alexis Schmidt to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

Freshman Katie Smallcomb tied the game with a single through the right side to score Ewing, and senior Samantha Snodgrass' ground out plated Haslett with the go-ahead run.

Castiglione doubled home Maria Lacatena and Smallcomb and freshman Sarah Dowd single down the left-field line to score Castiglione with the Penguins' sixth run.
