Softball Announces 55-Game 2015 Slate

Four in-season tournaments and matchups against teams from the Big East and Big 10 Conferences highlight a 55-game schedule in 2015, Youngstown State softball Head Coach Brian Campbell announced on Thursday.

The Penguins, who will play 18 home games at the YSU Softball Field, play their first 18 games in the states of North and South Carolina. 

YSU opens the campaign with a four-game set at the Campbell Tournament in Buies Creek, N.C., Feb. 6-7. Youngstown State faces Maryland-Eastern Shore, St. John's, East Tennessee State and Townson in the season-opening tournament.

Two weeks later, the Penguins take on Maryland-Baltimore County twice, Elon and La Salle at the Elon Tournament, Feb. 20-21.

The Penguins continue their early season trek through North Carolina with four games at the UNC-Wilmington Tournament, March 7-8. Each day the Penguins will play a pair of games against UNCW and Norfolk State.

A pair of doubleheaders at Charleston Southern (March 10) and The College of Charleston (March 11) in Charleston, S.C., precede the Penguins' final in-season tournament at Mercer, March 13-14, in Macon, Ga.

The Penguins take on Big Ten member Michigan State, Marcer twice, and Mississippi Valley State in Macon.

Youngstown State opens its home slate with 10 straight games at the YSU Softball Field beginning with a three-game series against Detroit, March 20-21, to open Horizon League play. The Penguins also host Kent State (March 25), Horizon League foe Oakland (March 27-28) and St. Bonaventure (April 1).

The Penguins also host Horizon League opponents Cleveland State (April 10-11) and Green Bay (April 24-25) in three-game series. YSU also hosts Akron in a non-league doubleheader on April 14 at the YSU Softball Field.

The Penguins will play at Wright State (April 3-4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (April 7), Robert Morris (April 15) UIC (April 17-18), Eastern Michigan (April 22) and Niagara (April 29).

Youngstown State will close out the regular season at Valparaiso (May 1-2) and the Horizon League Championships are May 6-9.
