Softball Picked Fourth In Horizon League Preseason Poll

Indianapolis, Indiana - The Youngstown State softball team was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League in a preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches, the league announced on Wednesday.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Penguins, who are coming off a 30-24 record in 2014, earned 31 total points and recorded two first-place votes.

Wright State was picked to win the Horizon League with 40 points and one first-place vote. Defending league champion Green Bay was picked second with a league-best three first-place votes and 38 points.

Valparaiso garnered the third spot with 37 points and two first-place votes. Cleveland State was fifth (29 points), UIC was sixth (27), Oakland was picked seventh (15) and Detroit eighth (7).

The Penguins open the 2015 campaign against Maryland-Eastern Shore, Friday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m. at the Campbell/Hampton Inn Invitational.
