Softball Drops Pair Against IUPUI

Crown Point, Ind. -- The Youngstown State softball team dropped a pair of games against IUPUI, 4-0, and 9-4, at the Sparta Dome.

In the opener, the Penguins (2-4) recorded just two hits, singles by Cali Mikovich and Miranda Castiglione in the top of the first inning.

Freshman Ashley Kozial struck out four in four innings, but took the loss.

In game two, freshman Stevie Taylor belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead after one.

Mikovich went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.

The Penguins gave up two runs in the second, three in the third and two more in the five in the 9-4 defeat.

The Penguins take on Norfolk State and UNC-Wilmington, March 7, at 10:30 a.m and 3:30 p.m., respectively, in Wilmington, N.C.
