Macon, Ga. -- Freshman Cali Mikovich belted a walkoff home run to leadoff the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Youngstown State softball team (7-12) to a 6-5 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday. The Penguins dropped an 11-0 decision to Mercer later in the day.

Sophomore Sarah Dowd went 2-for-3 with a run scored and drove in another while freshmen Stevie Taylor and Kelly Thompson-Cappadocio each went 2-for-3.

Senior Kayla Haslett struck out three in 3.2 innings pitched to pick up the win.

The Penguins trailed 2-1 but used a three-run fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.  Thompson-Cappadocio led off the frame with a single up the middle and Alexa Schmidt was subbed in to pinch run. Schmidt scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 2-2.

Haslett walked and stole second and Smallcomb scored on a wild pitch to take a 3-2 lead. Haslett scored on a suicide squeeze by Dowd.

After A&M cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, the Penguins answered when Brittney Moffatt's ground out plated Miranda Castiglione, who walked and stole second and third.
