Changes Made to Slate But Softball Still Has Busy Week

There were a couple adjustments made to the Youngstown State softball schedule this week, but the Penguins are still gearing up for a busy week with five Horizon League games on tap.

The Penguins host Oakland in a doubleheader, Wednesday, April 1, starting at 3 p.m. and visit Wright State for a three-game series, April 3-4, in Dayton, Ohio.

About Oakland
Oakland enters the doubleheader with an overall record of 11-14 and a 2-1 mark in the Horizon League. Leading the Golden Grizzlies is Sarah Hartley with a .415 batting average, six home runs and 23 RBIs. Sara Cupp is second on the squad with a .377 average and 18 runs batted in. Erin Kownacki leads the pitching staff with a 7-6 record and a 3.11 earned-run average. 

About Wright State
The Raiders enter the week with an overall mark of 7-21 and a 3-2 record in the Horizon League. Wright State is coming of a spilt against Horizon League foe Valparaiso on March 28, and the Raiders won two out of three against Cleveland State, March 20-21. Leading the Raiders is Libby Pfeffer with a .349 batting average and five home runs. Montana Wear leads the pitching staff with a 6-12 record and a 4.99 earned-run average. 

Stop Thief
Junior Miranda Castiglione is approaching the Youngstown State single-season steals mark. She ranks second on the list with 14 and needs one more to tie and two more to break the mark of 15.

Taylor Gang
Freshman Stevie Taylor is off to a good start during her rookie campaign. Taylor is batting .297 with 10 extra-base hits - five doubles, a triple and four home runs. She also is tied for the team lead with six mult-hit games.

Moffatt Off to Good Start vs. HL
Sophomore Brittney Moffatt is off to a solid start against Horizon League foe. Moffatt is batting .400 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in league play.
