Miranda Castiglione Ties Hits Mark in 17-2 Win Over South Carolina State

Orangeburg, S.C. -- Junior Miranda Castiglione tied the YSU single-game hits mark going 4-for-4 and scored four times as the Youngstown State softball team defeated South Carolina State, 17-2.

The Penguins, who improve to 6-9 with the win, cranked out 18 hits in the victory. Freshman Stevie Taylor and Hannah Lucas each went 3-for-4, while Taylor drove in three runs and belted a home run. 

Junior Katie Smallcomb and freshman Alexis Roach each tallied two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Minney struck out six and gave up just three hits to pick up the win.

The Penguins scored one in the first, two in the second and nine in the third to take a 12-0 lead.

After the Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the third, the Penguin tacked on five in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Cali Mikovich delivered a bases-loaded triple to spark the five-inning.

The Penguins take on Michigan State, Friday, at 11 a.m. at the Mercer Tournament in Macon, Ga.
