Indianapolis, Ind. -- Four Youngstown State softball players earned All-Horizon League recognition and Maddi Lusk was named Co-Freshman of the Year after a vote of the league's head coaches, the Horizon League announced on Tuesday.
Junior Hannah Lucas was named to the All-Horizon League First-Team, while senior Brittney Moffatt, junior Cali Mikovich andn Lusk were all named to the All-Horizon League Second-Team. Lusk also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Lucas, who picked up her first all-league award, leads the Penguins with an overall batting average of .338 and 20 stolen bases. In league play, Lucas ranked second with 32 hits, third with a .416 batting average 12 stolen bases and a .505 on-base percentage and tied for third with 22 runs scored.
Moffatt, who batted. 350 in Horizon League play, led the league with 27 RBIs in conference play and drove in a team-high 33 runs overall. During Youngstown State's 12-game winning streak in league play, Moffatt batted a team-high .524 (22-for-42) with a double, home run, seven runs scored and 21 RBIs. She also posted an OPS of 1.172.
Mikovich, a 2016 All-Horizon League First-Team selection and an NFCA All-Region Second-Team choice, had six doubles, 14 runs scored and 12 RBIs against league foes.
Lusk, the second YSU player to earn Freshman of the Year since 2014, leads the Horizon League in innings pitched (185.1) and ranks second with 15 wins and 133 strikeouts. Her earned-run average of 2.68 ranks fifth in the league. Lusk also batted .301 in league play with seven doubles and 11 RBIs.
Youngstown State garnered the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Championships, will play the winner of the No. 3 Valparaiso - No. 6 Oakland game on Thursday, May 11, at 3:30 p.m. EDT/2:30 p.m. CDT.
