Softball Announces 2019 Schedule

2019 Schedule

Youngstown State softball Head Coach Brian Campbell announced the Penguins' 2019 schedule, a slate of 56 games and four in-season tournaments, on Monday afternoon.

The Penguins will play their first 22 games on the road and open the campaign with four games at the USC-Upstate Tournament, Feb. 8-9. The Penguins will face East Carolina and Towson on Feb. 8 and Miami (Ohio) and USC-Upstate on Feb. 9.

Two weeks later, the Penguins return to action for a five-game tournament hosted by UNC-Charlotte, Feb. 22-23. In Charlotte, YSU takes on Winthrop and Charlotte on Feb. 22, Lehigh and Winthrop on Feb. 23 and Lehigh on Feb. 24.

The Penguins will spend their spring break in the states of South Carolina and North Carolina, March 8-17, and will play 13 games in nine days. YSU opens its southern trip with four contests in Charleston, S.C., March 8-9, and will face Rhode Island and Bryant on March 8. The next day the Penguins will take on Marist and ACC-member NC State.

After a pair of doubleheaders at North Carolina Central (March 12) and at Campbell (March 13), the Penguins close out their spring trip with five games at the UNC-Wilmington Tournament, March 15-17. On day one in Wilmington, the Penguins will take on Canisius and Eastern Kentucky while facing UNC-Wilmington and Canisius on day two. YSU will close out the tourney with a St. Patrick's Day single game at UNC-Wilmington.

The next nine contests will be at the Covelli Sports Complex and the 2019 home opener is slated for March 20 with a doubleheader against Kent State. YSU's Horizon League opener is a three-game series against Oakland, March 22-23.

The Penguins close out their nine-game homestand with a pair of non-league doubleheaders against Akron (March 26) and St. Bonaventure (March 27).

Youngstown State then embarks on a 10-game road trip with a three-game series at IUPUI, March 29-30, a doubleheader at Niagara, April 3, a three-game series at Detroit Mercy, April 5-6, and a doubleheader at Robert Morris, April 10.

The Penguins will play nine of the next Horizon League games at home beginning with six straight against Cleveland State, April 12-13, and Wright State, April 16-17. After a three-game series at Northern Kentucky, April 23-24, the Penguins close out the home portion of their schedule against UIC, April 26-27.

Youngstown State finishes the regular season with a three-game series at Green Bay, May 3-4.

The 2019 Horizon League Championship is slated for May 8-11 at the No. 1 seed.
