Charleston, S.C. - The Youngtown State softball team received a pair of outstanding pitching performances from freshman Addy Jarvis and sophomore Elle Buffenbarger, but the Penguins dropped a pair of games on Sunday at the Charleston Invitational at Patriots Point.

The Penguins lost to Marist, 2-0, and North Carolina State, 1-0, and fall to 1-10 on the season.

In the opener against Marist, Jarvis struck out nine and allowed just five hits and one earned run. It marked the second straight outing Jarvis whiffed a career-high nine batters. In the loss to the Red Foxes, the Penguins tallied three hits.

Against the Wolfpack, Buffenbarger fanned a career-high 11 and allowed just five hits. Buffenbarger is the first YSU pitcher to strikeout at least 10 batters since Maddi Lusk had 12 against UIC on April 8, 2017.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the second, Buffenbarger gave up just three hits the rest of the way.

The Penguins loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh after a leadoff walk by Alex DeLeon, a single by Sophia Patonis and Yazmine Romero reached on a fielder's choice. YSU though could not get a run across the plate.

YSU visits North Carolina Central in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 12, at 1 p.m.
