Highland Heights, Ky. -- Sophomore Elle Buffenbarger tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout with five strikeouts in a 2-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon.

The Penguins improve to 22-24 overall and 10-5 in the league while the Norse moves to 16-26 overall and 9-8 in the league.

Sophomore Yazmine Romero went 2-for-3 while junior Maddi Lusk and sophomore Nikki Saibene each drove in a run.

In the top of the first, Lusk drove in senior Lexi Zappitelli with a two-out single to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

Saibene added an insurance run with a run-scoring fielder's choice that plated Tatum Christy, who led off the sixth inning with a walk.

In the opener, senior Paige Geanangel was impressive in a hard-luck loss striking out five and allowing just two earned runs.

The Norse used a three-run fourth inning to lead to the win. Junior Miyah Mitchum drove in YSU's lone run with a single to left field in the top of the fifth inning.

The Penguins host UIC in a three-game series, April 26-27, at the Covelli Sports Complex.
