Youngstown State softball Head Coach Brian Campbell announced the Penguins' 2020 schedule, a slate that includes 56 games and four in-season tournaments, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Penguins play their first 22 games on the road, including a doubleheader at Memphis and a single game against SEC member Ole Miss.
Youngstown State opens the campaign with five games at the Gardner-Webb AmericInn Lodge and Suites Tournament, Feb. 7-9. The Penguins face Maryland-Eastern Shore and Canisius on Feb. 7 to open the season, while taking on UMES and Gardner-Webb on Feb. 8 and Canisius on Feb. 9 to close the tournament.
Two weeks later, the Penguins head to the 2020 Pirate Classic hosted by Hampton University, Feb. 21-23. YSU takes on Radford and Norfolk State on Feb. 21, Morehead State and Hampton on Feb. 22 and Sacred Heart on Feb. 23.
Spring break begins with four games at the Memphis Tournament, March 6-8, where the Penguins square off against Belmont, Western Carolina, Indiana State and Butler. YSU takes on Memphis in a doublheader on March 10 and Ole Miss in a single-game on March 11.
The Penguins' close out spring break with a five-game tournament at Murray State, March 13-15, where they take on Murray State three times and Belmont twice.
YSU hosts Northern Kentucky, March 24-25, in its home and Horizon League opener before heading to UIC on March 27-28.
Other home opponents include Robert Morris (March 31), Niagara (April 1), Toledo (April 7), Green Bay (April 10-11), IUPUI (April 17-18), and Detroit Mercy (April 24-25).
The Penguins road foes include Cleveland State (April 3-4), Akron (April 8), Wright State (April 14-15), St. Bonaventure (April 21) and Oakland (May 1-2).
The 2020 Horizon League Softball Championship is slated for May 6-8 at the No. 1 seed.
