Penguins Have Progressive Weekend at Tennessee Relays

Knoxville, Tenn. - The Youngstown State track and field team finished up a busy three-day meet today at the University of Tennessee. The top performers of the day were sophomore Jay Jakovina and junior Austin McLean.

Jakovina has won the high jump in his last two previous meets but just came short of taking home first place this week. He tied for second with Reginald Miller Jr. of SE Missouri jumping 2.10 meters which would tie his personal best of the season. Freshman Arnaldo Morales finished eighth in the high jump leaping 2.00 meters.

McLean competed in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase and finished within the top three in the event. He had his fastest time in the event running it in 9:18.60 to place in third. His teammate junior Eric Rupe also competed in the race and was able to finish in eighth place with a time of 9:23.44.

In the women's field events junior Jessica Parham took a seventh place finish in the javelin throwing it 41.24 meters and sophomore Jennifer Neider finished in tenth place in the shot put with a heave of 13.71 meters to make it one of her best throws of the season.

Senior Kevin McCulloh had his best throw of the year in the men's javelin as he had a launch of 61.04 meters to finish in eighth place.

The Youngstown State track and field teams will compete next week at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
