Penguins Prep For Horizon League Meet at Zips Invitational

Akron, Ohio - Nina Grambling, Arnaldo Morales, Ryan Booth and Conner Neu won events on Friday night as the YSU track and field teams were in action at the Zips Invitational. The meet featured just YSU, Akron and a few unattached athletes at the Stile Athletics Field House in a tune up for both schools before their conference meets next weekend.

Neu won the weight throw with a toss of 20.22 meters winning by .83 meters. Booth won the shot put with a career-best toss of 16.62 meters. Morales won the high jump clearing 2.04 meters on his second attempt. He was the only high jumper to clear two meters.

Grambling won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.50 seconds besting Akron's Rachel Christian by .07 seconds. She was second in the long jump with a leap of 5.58 meters.

In the mile, Mike Navratil posted a career-best time of 4:18.46 while Alan Burns also had a career-best time of 4:19.95 in the event.

Caleb Lloyd was third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds. Carl Zallow clocked a time of 6.95 seconds, just .02 off his career best time. In the 800-meter run, Dylin Wilhoite had a time of 1:57.32.

Marcellus Embry posted a season-best time of 21.78 seconds in the 200m dash to finish fourth. For the women, Destiny Hall had a season-best performance of 26.07 seconds in the 200m.

Jennifer Shiley was second in the 400-meter dash by just .01 behing Akron's Shauniece Steele. Shiley had a time of 57.05 seconds, just an eyelash behind Steele's 57.04. 

YSU capped off the event by winning the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:04.07.

Eric Rupe and Austin McLean will run at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday hosted by Notre Dame. As a team, the Guins are in action next weekend when they play host to the Horizon League Championships at the WATTS.
