Penguins Have Busy Weekend Taking Part In Three Meets

The Youngstown State track and field team had a busy two days with members of the team competing in three different meets across the country.

On Friday and Saturday, nearly 20 members were in action at the Mt. SAC Relays in California while others competed at the Northeast Ohio Quad and the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.

Mt. Sac Relays Recap

Jaynee Corbett had third-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 15.17m while finishing sixth in the discus with a best throw of 46.22m. Ryan Booth had throw of 46.77m in the discus.

In the women's sprint events, Jaliyah Elliott had a time of 11.86 seconds in the 100m dash while Taylor Thompkins clocked a time of 12.19 seconds in the 100m as well. In the hurdles, Amber Eles ran a time of 14.71 seconds in the 100m hurdles and Taylor McDonald had a 1:01.11 to place eighth in the 400m hurdles.

In the high jump, Abby Jones was sixth clearing a height of 1.68m and Chenera Lacey was eighth at 1.63m.

In the men's sprint events, Carl Zallow ran time of 10.80 seconds in the 100m dash. Freshman Collin Harden ran a time of 54.65 seconds in the 400m hurdles. 

Bucknell Recap

Late Friday at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, freshman Ryan Roush broke the YSU 10.000m school record running a time of 29:34.12. Roush eclipsed the previous standard of 30:00.99 set by Ryan Sullivan last year.

Other Penguins who were in action at Bucknell were Melissa Klim who ran a 19:44.14 in the 5,000m, Suzanne Koziol who ran an 11:50.75 in the steeplechase Libby Rogenski who clocked a 12:21.19 in the steeplechase, Dylan Dombi had a time of 30:56.74 in the 10,000m and Mike Dahman ran a 33:46.13 in the 10,000m.

Northeast Ohio Quad Recap

Brendon Lucas and Kesihawnna Burts won events to lead the Penguins who competed the Northeast Ohio Quad on Saturday.

Burts won the 400m with a time of 56.22 seconds and was second in the 200m with a time of 24.03 seconds.

Ellie Pollock placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.50m. Angela Lock was third in the javelin with a throw of 33.37m.

Iva Domitrovich was fourth with a time of 56.89 seconds in the 400m

Lucas won the 200m dash with a time of 21.19 seconds while also finishing fourth in the 400m with a time of 48.85 seconds.

Tim Holzapfel ran a career-best time of 14.36 seconds to place second in the 110 hurdles. Jacob Wison had a second-place throw in the javelin with a toss of 58.29m.

Brad Jones claimed a fourth-place finish in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.95m. Anthony Butler picked up a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 14.49m. 

Dom Westbay was fourth in the shot put with at throw of 15.94m. Tyler Donati was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 55.77m.
