The Youngstown State track and field team had a strong performance at the YSU Icebreaker on Friday at the WATTS. Eight Penguins combined to win nine different events in the season-opening meet.
Jaynee Corbett won both throwing events while Chad Zallow and Ryan Booth won in impressive fashion to start their seasons. Amber Eles won the 60m hurdles, Jaliyah Elliott took first in the 60m dash in her YSU debut, Carl Zallow took first in the 60m dash, Dylan Latone won the pole vault and Anthony Butler won the long jump in his YSU debut.
Corbett opened her season by winning the shot put with a throw of 14.02m and the weight throw with a toss of 16.56m.
Chad Zallow blew away the field in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.78 seconds winning by almost a half a second.
Booth won the shot put by two meters with a throw of 17.56m.
Eles won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59 seconds taking first place by 0.22 seconds.
Carl Zallow won the 60m dash with a time of 6.86 seconds and was second in the 200m dash at 21.89 seconds.
Latone won the pole vault clearing the bar at 4.80m while Butler won the long jump with leap of 6.85m.
Newcomer Jaliyah Elliott took first in the 60m dash with a time of 7.71 seconds while finishing second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.35 seconds.
The Penguins return to action following the semester break on Jan. 20 when they play host to the YSU College Invitational.
