The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team is back in action on Friday and Saturday as the Penguins play host to the YSU National Track & Field Invitational.
On Friday, field events begin at 4 p.m. while the running events start at 5 p.m. On Saturday, field events get underway at 10 a.m. with the running starting at 1 p.m.
At the meet, the Penguins will entertain athletes from Bloomsburg, Bucknell, Canisius, Cleveland State (Women), Colgate, Detroit, Glenville State, Indiana (Pa.), IFPW (Women), Lock Haven, Mansfield, Oakland, Pitt-Johnstown, Point Park, Robert Morris (Women), Seton Hill, Slippery Rock, St. Vincent (Pa.), West Liberty, Wheeling Jesuit.
Headlining the Penguins' competitors at the YSU National Invitational are Brendon Lucas (400m), Melissa Klim (3,000m), Ryan Sullivan (5,000m), Brad Jones (high jump), Arnaldo Morales (high jump), Anthony Butler (triple jump), Dylan Latone (pole vault), Jaliyah Elliott (60m and 200m dash),
The distance events should be a good battle between runners from Oakland, Detroit, Bucknell and YSU. The Penguins are also scheduled to compete in both 4x400m relays and the men will run the distance medley relay.
Additionally, five members of the squad will be in action at the Armory Track Invitational which begins tomorrow and goes through Saturday in New York City. Running for YSU at the event are Carl Zallow, Chad Zallow and Amber Eles. Competing in the throwing events are Jaynee Corbett and Ryan Both.
All five will be in action on Friday. Corbett is in the shot put starting at noon, Carl Zallow runs in Heat 7 of the 60m dash at 12:45 p.m., Eles runs in Heat 2 of the 60m hurdles at 1:05 p.m., Chad Zallow runs in Heat 4 of the 60m hurdles at 1:30 p.m. and Booth throws the shot put at 4 p.m. Corbett is in the weight throw event on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.
