Corbett, Zallow Win Events At Akron Zips Invitational

Akron, Ohio - Chad Zallow and Jaynee Corbett won individual events as the Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team competed at the Akron Zips Invitational on Friday night at Stile Field House.

The Penguins competed against Akron and Buffalo at the event.

Zallow ran his third consecutive race of 7.61 seconds in the 60m hurdles winning the event by 0.60 seconds ahead of Akron's Brandon Mitchell. Zallow's time broke the Stile Field House record of 7.73 seconds by Brendon Hon that had stood since 2007.

Corbett won the weight throw with a toss of 17.35m. Corbett posted her best mark on her fifth attempt to beat Akron's Olivia Snyder who had a throw of 17.23m. She was second in the shot put with a throw of 14.60m

In the 60m hurldes Amber Eles lost a close race to Akron's Dara Perry. Perry won the race with a time of 8.54 seconds while Eles was close behind at 8.56 seconds tying her season-fastest time.

Collin Harden finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 49.65. Harden finished second by 0.22 seconds. In the long jump, Tim Holzapfel was second with a leap of 6.42m.

In the 200m dash Carl Zallow returned to the track and finished second with a season-best time of 21.75 seconds. Zallow had not run since late January at the PSU National Invitational.

The women were second and third in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. In the 60m dash, Jaliyah Elliott was second with a personal-best time of 7.61 seconds while Taylor Thompkins finished third with a season-best time of 7.65 seconds. In the 200m dash, Elliott ran a personal-best time of 24.94 seconds while Thompkins ran a season-best race of 25.39 seconds. 

For the men, YSU placed second and third in the 3,000m run behind season-best times by Alan Burns and Dylan Dombi. Burns was second running an 8:36.47 while Dombi came in third with a time of 8:43.10. 

Lasander Washington ran a career-best time in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97 seconds to place third. In the weight throw, Mathew Monroe finished second with a season-best throw of 16.34m. In the shot put, Dom Westbay had a season-best throw of 16.31m to place second.

Jennifer Muhlenkamp ran a time of 5:21.35 in the mile and was followed by Michelle Klim who had a time of 5:23.20. Keishawnna Burts clocked a 57.70 in the 400m dash. C.J. Schumacher ran a 1:57.89 in the 800m run. Suzanne Koziol ran a time of 10:54.37 in the 3,000m run. 

Members of the men's and women's track and field team will be in action on Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame and the Kent State Tune Up.
