Akron, Ohio - Select members of the Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Akron Zips Invitational on Friday night at the Stile Field House.
Chad Zallow, Jaliyah Elliott, Jaynee Corbett and Keishawnna Burts won events as the Penguins are a week from the Horizon League Championships. The Penguins competed against Akron, Buffalo and various unattched runners on Friday evening.
Chad Zallow took first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.87 seconds and the 60m dash with a time of 6.78 seconds. He won the hurdles by 0.32 seconds and the 60m dash by 0.04 seconds as YSU took the top five spots in the event.
Elliott won the 60m dash with a time of 7.47 seconds. Burts won the 200m dash with a time of 24.44 seconds.
Corbett won the shot put with a toss of 15.47m on her second attempt of the event. Corbett was second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.61m. Corbett had the lead until the fifth round when Akron's Olivia Snyder had a toss of 17.68m.
Amber Eles was second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds to professional runner and fellow Horizon League Champion Cassandra Lloyd.
Carl Zallow was second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.74 seconds while Brandon Mosley was right behind with a time of 21.75 seconds. In the 60m dash, Mosley was second, Carl Zallow was third (6.86 seconds), Brendon Lucas fourth (7.03) and Josh Beaumont was fifth (7.07).
YSU will play host to the HL Indoor Championships next Saturday and Sunday at the WATTS. The men have won two straight titles while the women have won three of the last four indoor crowns.
