Miramar, Florida - Youngstown State thrower Zach Gehm won the discus title with a personal-best throw of 60.31m at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships held at the Ansin Sports Complex.
With his first place finish, Gehm advances to the Pan American U20 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica where he will represent Team USA on July 18 through July 21.
Gehm opened with a foul before eclipsing his personal-best for the first time of the day with a throw of 54.98m on his second attempt. Gehm's previous personal-best was 54.67m, which he recorded on May 24 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
On his third attempt, Gehm notched a solid throw of 57.25m before taking the lead in the event on his fourth try with a throw of 58.67m. Gehm's fifth throw of the afternoon ended up being the winning throw and a new personal-best after traveling 60.31m (197-10).
Jamynk Jackson will represent YSU tomorrow on the the final day of competition when he runs in the second heat of the 200m dash at 4:18 p.m.
