Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams' duo of Alan Burns and Abby Jones has been named to the Academic All-Horizon League Teams, the league announced on Thursday.
Both athletes were recognized for the first time in their YSU career.
Alan Burns, Youngstown State | Senior

-Placed second in the 5,000m at the Horizon League Indoor Championships
-Posted the third fastest 5,000m time in the Horizon League at 15:00.47
-Competed in the 3,000m and ran a season-best time of 8:36.91
Abby Jones, Youngstown State | Junior
4.00 Physical Education
-Placed second in the high jump at the Horizon League Indoor Championships after clearing 1.75m
-Broke her own school record in the high jump after clearing 1.75m
-Received Academic All-Horizon League honors during the 2018 outdoor season
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
YSU returns to the track next week for the beginning of the outdoor season. The Penguins will be competing at the Clyde Little Field Texas Relays, Texas State University Bobcat Relays, and North Carolina State Raleigh Relays from Wednesda,y March 27 through Sunday, March 30.
