The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their first weekend of the outdoor season on Saturday as they competed at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, North Carolina State Raleigh Relays and Texas State University Bobcat Invitational.
Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays | Results
Senior Chad Zallow finished fifth in a stong 110m hurdles finals field with a time of 13.70 seconds. Zallow got off to a strong start in the race and was leading after the 5th hurdle. Houston senior Amere Lattin went on to win the race with a time of 13.40 seconds.
Junior Jaliyah Elliott finished eighth in the 100m dash finals with a time of 11.57 seconds. LSU freshman Sha'Carri Richardson won the race with a time of 10.91 seconds.
Raleigh Relays | Results
The 4x1500m relay was the first event for the Penguins on Day 2 of competition at the Raleigh Relays. The women posted the seventh fastest time at 19:26.23 while the men finished with the 10th fastest time at 16:02.20.
Jake Wilson lead the way in the javelin with a fourth place finish after reaching a mark of 62.43m on his second attempt. Noah Drudy earned a seventh place finish in the event after throwing the javelin 61.46m on his third attempt of the day.
In the 4x200, the women ran in Heat 2 and finished with the 10th fastest time overall at 1:42.54. The men's team of Myron Anderson, Josh Beaumont, Brendon Lucas and Pierlus Stewart won Heat 2 with a time of 1:27.23 while finishing with the fourth fastest time overall. George Mason, Michigan State and Morgan State were the only teams to finish ahead of the Penguins.
In the hammer throw, Reshanna Simon posted the furthest mark with a throw of 41.70m on her first attempt. On her final attempt of the day Kaitlyn Merwin threw the hammer 40.81m, Nicolette Kreatsoulas also competed in the event.
On the men's side in the hammer throw, Joe Pfeffer lead the way with a personal-best throw of 51.74m on his second attempt. Freshman Zach Gehm threw the hammer 45.83m on his second attempt while Noah Drudy reached 37.51m on his final attempt.
Mara Wilson was the lone competitor in the 400m dash for the Penguins and finished with time of 1:06.64.
In the triple jump, Daiquain Watson was the only participant for YSU and posted the 10th furthest mark in the event at 13.26m.
Chontel Fils earned a seventh place finish in the triple jump after leaping a personal-best of 11.92m on third attempt.
Texas State Bobcat Invitational | Results
Suerethia Henderson earned a sixth place finish in the 200m dash after posting a time of 24.01 seconds. Freshman Destiny Washington ran in Heat 8 of the 100m hurldes and finished with a time of 15.15 seconds.
The Penguins are back in action next weekend when they host Day 1 of the Northeast Ohio Quad on Friday, April 6, beginning with the men's long jump at 12:30 p.m from Farmers National Bank Field. Day 2 will be held at Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex on the University of Akron campus, starting with the men's hammer at 10 a.m.
