The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams return to the track on Friday and Saturday when they compete at the Duke Invitational and Ashland Alumni Invitational.
The Duke Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m on Friday with the men's 5000m run and women's hammer throw at the Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium. Saturday's events get underway with the men's discus at 11 a.m. while the running events get started at 2:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100m relay.
The throwers will head to the Ashland Alumni Invitational which kickoffs at 11 a.m. on Friday with the Jeff Heddles men's hammer throw at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex. Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m. with the Bryan Vicker's men's shot put.
YSU is coming off a very successful weekend that featured 13 first place finishes at the Westminster Invitational as well as a number of top five finishes at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. The distance runners concluded the weekend by running some of the three fastest times in program history at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
On Tuesday, Chontel Fils was named the Horizon League Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
USTFCCA Regional Rankings
The women's program jumped up another three sports in this week's USTFCCA Great Lakes Region rankings to 15th after being ranked 18th the previous week. The men ranked 13th for the second consecutive week after being ranked as high as 11th during the outdoor season.
Horizon League Top Times
With Horizon League Outdoor Championships less than three weeks away, both the men's and women's teams hold a number of the Horizon League's top times and field marks. The men currently hold 11 of the top times and field marks while the women own nine. Zallow highlights the men's side as he has the top times in the 100m, 200m and 110m hurdles. For the women, Jaliyah Elliott has the fastest times in the 100m and 200m dashes while Fils owns the furthest leaps in the long and triple jumps.
