Akron, Ohio - Nicolette Kreatsoulas set the school record in the hammer throw as the Youngstown State men's and women's throwers wrapped up competition at the Northeast Ohio Quad on Saturday from the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
Kreatsoulas finished as the runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 58.77m on her final attempt. That throw by Kreatsoulas broke the school record of 58.04m set by Bethany Anderson in 2008. Sammy Dyson posted the next best throw at 44.88m while Kaitlyn Merwin was just behind her with a toss of 44.79m.
In the men's hammer throw, Joe Pfeffer took sixth place with a personal-best toss of 57.50m while Andrew Hallof was eighth with a throw of 46.52m. Zach Gehm (44.20m) and Noah Drudy (42.81m) also competed in the hammer throw for the Penguins.
In the discus, freshman Zach Gehm took third place with an impressive throw of 52.52m. Gehm's mark is the now the second best in school history. Andrew Hallof placed seventh with a best throw of 45.27m.
Merwin led the way for the women in the discus with a seventh place finish after recording a mark of 42.21m on her second attempt.
Angela Lock took third place in the javelin with a throw of 41.07m on her fifth attempt while freshman Olivia Jones finished fifth after throwing the javelin 38.05m. Coreen Crosby posted the next best mark for the Penguins at 34.53 and Camryn Jarrett recorded a throw of 27.15m. For the men, Stefan Pontius finished with a best mark of 29.92m.
In the shot put, Brandon Orlando took third with a personal-best toss of 16.80m. Orlando now owns the fifth furthest shot put mark in school history. Gehm had a best throw of 13.78m in the event.
For the women, Merwin finished sixth with a personal-best toss of 14.06m while Dyson had a best toss of 12.71m and Olivia Jones had a throw of 11.55m.
The Penguins are back in action on Friday, April 12 when they travel to Miami for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
