INDIANAPOLIS - Youngstown State senior Macklin Rose was recognized as the Horizon League Men's Field Athlete of the Week while fellow senior Ryan Sullivan was named the Men's Runner of the Week for their record breaking performances this past weekend, the league announced on Tuesday.
Sullivan kicked off the weekend for the Penguins by setting the school record in the 5000m run on Thursday night at the 125th running of the Penn Relays. Running out of Heat 1, Sullivan finished with the 16th fastest time overall at 14:21.06 while ultimately breaking Eric Rupe's program record by 1.21 seconds.
On Saturday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Relays, Rose initially broke the school record in the pole vault when he cleared 4.91m on first attempt. However, Rose eventually went on to set the program record at 4.96m while also earning a sixth place finish in the event.
The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams begin their quest for the Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon from Farmers National Bank Field.
