Youngstown State's Jenna Hirsch has been named the Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the period ending Dec. 22, the conference office announced on Monday.
Hirsch, a native of Marlette, Mich., started at point guard in all three of the Penguins' games last week and helped them to two wins. She scored 13 points while adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 46 minutes in YSU's double-overtime win over Malone on Monday. She then had six points, three steals and a career-high seven assists in 39 minutes in the win over Vermont on Saturday. Hirsch recorded eight points and a career-best seven rebounds against Delaware.
Hirsch has started each of the past four games for YSU and is averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists over that span.
Fellow Penguin Karen Flagg was named to the Lehigh "Christmas City Classic" All-Tournament Team for her efforts in YSU's two games against Delaware and Vermont over the weekend. Flagg averaged 9.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in the two contests. Against Vermont, she had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, and she added three assists and four blocks.
