Youngstown State junior forward Heidi Schlegel has been named to the 2014 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team.
Schelgel, a native of Wapakoneta, Ohio, averaged 20.5 points on 60-percent shooting for the Penguins as they advanced to the tournament semifinals for the second straight season. Schlegel added 16 rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal in YSU's two games.
Schlegel had a game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal in 34 minutes in YSU's quarterfinal victory over Oakland on Wednesday. She was 8-of-13 from the field, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range, and she made 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Her 10th rebound of the night led to a free throw with 6.9 seconds left that gave the Penguins their final points in the 68-64 win.
In the semifinals loss to Wright State, Schlegel scored a team-high 20 points while grabbing six rebounds in 26 minutes. She was 7-of-12 shooting, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range, and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Schlegel joins Brandi Brown, an honoree last season, as the only Penguins to be named to the Horizon League's All-Tournament Team.
Wright State beat Green Bay 88-69 in the championship game on Sunday and had two representatives on the All-Tournament Team. Kim Demmings was named the tournament's most valuable player, and Tay'ler Mingo joined her on the team. Green Bay was represented by Tesha Buck and Mehryn Kraker.
