The 2014-15 Horizon League conference schedule was released on Thursday, and two February doubleheaders highlight the home schedule for the Youngstown State women's basketball team.
The Penguins will play doubleheaders with the YSU men's program on Feb. 11 against Oakland and Feb. 28 versus Green Bay. Youngstown State will play four Horizon League home games in January, three in February and one in March.
YSU will be challenged early in the league slate as the first four games are against teams that joined YSU in the top five of the 2013-14 final standings. YSU will start conference play with road games at UIC (Jan. 8) and Green Bay (Jan. 10), and it will host Cleveland State in the Horizon League home opener on Jan. 15. That starts a stretch where YSU will play four out of five games at Beeghly Center.
Youngstown State will host defending conference tournament champion Wright State on Jan. 22, and it will travel to Oakland on Jan. 24. The Penguins will then host Detroit on Jan. 28 and Milwaukee on Jan. 31 to conclude the month.
YSU will play Wright State for the second time in two weeks on Feb. 5 in a special noon tipoff for a kids day game at the Nutter Center. That contest will conclude the first half of conference play. Youngstown State will return home to host UIC on Feb. 7 and Oakland on Feb. 11 before playing three straight road games in an eight-day span at Detroit (Feb. 14), Milwaukee (Feb. 19) and Valparaiso (Feb. 21). The Penguins will host Green Bay on Feb. 28 in the final doubleheader of the season.
A trip to Cleveland State on March 4 begins the final month of the regular season, and Youngstown State will host Valparaiso in the regular-season finale on March 7.
The opening round of the Horizon League Tournament will be on March 9, followed by the quarterfinals on March 11, the semifinals on March 13 and the championship game on March 15.
