Youngstown State sophomore forward Sarah Cash has been named to the All-Horizon League Second Team in a vote of the league's coaches, sports information directors and select media.
Cash, who is completing her breakout sophomore year after being a non-scholarship player as a freshman, finished the regular season averaging team highs 14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds while having the third-best field-goal percentage in the country at .616.
"We're very happy for Sarah that the league is recognizing how good she's been this season," Coach John Barnes said. "She worked very hard in the offseason to develop into one of the top posts in the league, and she's been outstanding for our program both on the court and in the classroom."
Cash extends the streak of Penguins forwards to be named either first or second-team All-Horizon League to six consecutive seasons. She follows Brandi Brown in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 and Heidi Schlegel in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The Lordstown, Ohio, native is one of just three players in the Horizon League to rank in the top 10 in three of the five major statistical categories of points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Cash ranks eighth in scoring, 10th in rebounding and seventh in blocks, and she's one steal away from also being in the top 10 in steals. Cash had even better statistics in league play with averages of 15 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Cash scored in double figures in 20 of YSU's 29 games during the regular season, and she scored at least 20 seven times. Her career high of 24 points came at Detroit on Jan. 2, and she scored in the twenties in three consecutive games later in January. Cash posted six double-doubles during the regular season and grabbed at least 10 rebounds seven times.
Wright State's Kim Demmings was voted the Horizon League Player of the Year, and she was joined on the first team by UIC's Ruvanna Campbell, Milwaukee's Steph Kostowicz, Detroit's Rosanna Reynolds and Northern Kentucky's Christine Roush. In addition to Cash, Green Bay's Mehryn Kraker and Kaili Lukan, Cleveland State's Ashanti Abshaw and Oakland's Olivia Nash were on the second team.
Cash and the Penguins will play Oakland in the Horizon League Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
