Youngstown State sophomore Mary Dunn has been voted to the 2017-18 Horizon League Women's Basketball All-Academic Team for her combined success on the court and in the classroom, the conference announced on Thursday.
Dunn has been a key part of the Penguins' success down the stretch as they have won nine of their last 11 games. Since being inserted into the starting lineup at the start of February, she has averaged 11 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 59 percent from the field.
"I'm extremely proud of Mary for garnering Academic All-Horizon League honors," YSU head coach John Barnes said. "She works very hard in the classroom and on the court, so for her to be recognized by the league for both is outstanding. She is a model student-athlete."
For the year, Dunn leads the Penguins and ranks third in the Horizon League in field-goal percentage at .566. She also ranks sixth in the conference with 0.9 blocks per game, and she's averaging 7.3 points per game. During Horizon League play, Dunn's .570 shooting percentage was the second-best mark in the league. She was the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2016-17.
In the classroom, Dunn boasts a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a communications studies major. A three-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll selection as well, she helped YSU rank in the WBCA Academic Top 25 last year.
Dunn and the Penguins will begin play in the 2018 Little Caesars Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against fourth-seeded Milwaukee.
