Nicole Griffin has joined the Youngstown State women's basketball coaching staff as the program's director of operations, Penguins head coach John Barnes announced on Thursday.

Griffin comes to Youngstown after serving as an assistant coach at Carroll University, a Division III school in Wisconsin, the previous two years. Griffin will be in charge of coordinating the Penguins' travel logistics and budget, catered meals, on-campus recruiting visits, camps, practice schedules and academics.

"We're thrilled to have someone with a great basketball background like Nicole join our staff," Barnes said. "She has a tremendous reputation in our profession as one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school who also excelled at Oklahoma. She also gained valuable experience the last two seasons as an assistant coach."

At Carroll, Giffin was charged with coaching and developing the Pioneers' roster in addition to recruiting new student-athletes and preparing practice and game plans. At the same time, she worked with at-risk students in Milwaukee Public Schools as a paraprofessional. Griffin was also an academic mentor at the University of Oklahoma while she was completing her master's program.

Griffin was a standout on the basketball court as a three-year starter and four-year contributor at Oklahoma. She was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after her junior and senior years and finished her career with 1,088 points, 604 rebounds and 197 blocks. She ranks third in Sooners history in career blocks, and her .674 field-goal percentage as a freshman set a single-season program record.

In high school, she was named the Gatorade Wisconsin State Player of the Year in 2010 and was a Parade All-America Third-Team selection out of Vincent High School in Milwaukee. She was ranked as a top 100 recruit in the country by several recruiting services.
