Youngstown State women's basketball players Mary Dunn, Sarah Cash and Melinda Trimmer were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, selected by CoSIDA, on Thursday.

Dunn was a first-team selection while Cash and Trimmer were second-team picks. The Penguins had just six honorees total between 1997-98 and 2017-18, and the last YSU selection was Brandi Brown in 2012-13.

As a first-team selection, Dunn advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

Youngstown State is in District 5, which includes all Division I schools in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Dunn carries a 4.0 GPA as a double major in communications and sociology, and she was the only non-senior or graduate student to earn first or second-team honors in District 5. On the court, the Washington, Pa., native ranks fifth in the Horizon League in scoring with 13.5 points per game. She also ranks third in field-goal percentage, fifth in blocks, ninth in free-throw percentage and 13th in rebounding.

Cash is a fifth-year senior who is in the communications graduate program at YSU. She had a 4.0 in her first semester of graduate school, and she earned her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering last spring. She ranks eighth in the conference in scoring at 12.5 points per contest, and she sits second in field-goal percentage. Cash, a native of Lordstown, Ohio, holds YSU's record for career games played and is on pace to set the program record for career field-goal percentage.

Trimmer is a senior who has a 3.98 GPA as a biology / pre-med major. She leads the Horizon League and ranks 32nd in the country with a 2.32 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. She also ranks third in the conference with 4.2 assists per contest, and her .947 free-throw percentage in league play tops the conference charts. The native of Beloit, Ohio, has set career highs in nearly every offensive category as a senior.

Youngstown State has high academic success as a team. The Penguins have been on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for seven of the past eight seasons, and they carried a cumulative GPA of 3.75 after the fall semester.
