Youngstown State junior forward Mary Dunn has been named Third Google Cloud Academic All-America selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Dunn is the first Penguin in any sport to earn Academic All-America honors in three years, and she is the first women's basketball player to be recognized since Brandi Brown was a first-team pick in 2013. Dunn is one of four non-seniors or graduate students among the 15 individuals recognized.
The Washington, Pa., native was named the Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year as well as first-team all-conference for her on-court success in 2018-19. A two-time Horizon League Player of the Week, she ranks fifth in the league with 13.1 points per game, and she also ranks third in the circuit with a .565 field-goal percentage. She was even better against conference opponents, averaging 14.3 points and shooting 61.8 percent in 18 league games.
Off the court, Dunn holds a 4.0 GPA as a double major in communications and sociology. In addition to being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team in 2018-19, she earned academic all-conference honors for the second time in her career.
Youngstown State has high academic success as a team. The Penguins have been on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for seven of the past eight seasons, and they carried a cumulative GPA of 3.75 after the fall semester.
