The Youngstown State women's basketball program and the Horizon League announced the conference schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season on Thursday.
The Penguins will open Horizon League play on Dec. 28 at Detroit Mercy. The schedule is highlighted by a key stretch of five straight home games from Jan. 18 through Feb. 2 at the Beeghly Center.
The Penguins play four of their first six league games on the road opening the conference slate against the Titans and at Oakland on Dec. 30. YSU returns home to take on UIC on Jan. 3 and IUPUI on Jan. 5.
The next road swing takes the Penguins north to Wisconsin to take on Milwaukee (Jan. 10) and Green Bay (Jan. 12).
Then the Guins get a travel break with five straight home contests at the end of January. The start to the homestand features a contest against Wright State on Jan. 18 and then a game with Northern Kentucky on Jan. 20. The Penguins will then take on Cleveland State on Jan. 26 before wrapping up the home stretch against Oakland and Detriot Mercy.
YSU will be well travelled during a stretch from Feb. 8 to March 2. YSU plays five games in four different states during that span. The Penguins make their IUPUI (Feb. 8) and UIC (Feb. 10) swing before returning home to close out the home portion of its schedule vs. Green Bay (Feb. 15) and Milwaukee (Feb. 17). Three road games conclude the league campaign - at Northern Kentucky (Feb. 22), at Wright State (Feb. 24) and at Cleveland State (March 2)
The top-eight teams qualifiy for the 2019 Little Caesers Horizon League Women's Basketball Tournament. The four quarterfinal games will be on campus sites on either March 5 or March 6. The semifinals are Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12 in Detroit, Mich., at Little Caesars Arena.
