The Youngstown State women’s basketball program will play seven non-conference home games and four more contests within four hours of campus, YSU head coach John Barnes announced on Thursday.
The Penguins will have their earliest start to a season in program history when they host Robert Morris on Nov. 6, which will be the first of five home games in November. YSU will also play twice in Beeghly Center in December before Christmas break and the start of Horizon League play.
After hosting the Colonials on Nov. 6, YSU will welcome old Horizon League foe Loyola Chicago on Nov. 9 to Beeghly Center to finish a home-and-home series with the Ramblers that started last season. The Penguins will then travel to play at Pitt on Nov. 13 in their lone contest against a Power Five conference opponent during the regular season.
Following the game against Pitt, YSU will host its first of two non-Division I opponents as it plays Carlow on Nov. 16 in Youngstown. The Penguins will continue their series against Kent State as they make the short trip to Kent on Nov. 20, and they’ll wrap up the month with home contests against Yale on Nov. 24 and Akron on Nov. 28. YSU will be playing Yale for the first time in program history, while it will play Akron for the 57th time.
YSU’s December slate includes two road contests and two more games at Beeghly Center. The Penguins will begin the month at Canisius on Dec. 1, and they’ll have six days off before hosting Saint Francis U on Dec. 8. YSU will then have an extended break for final exams before playing at Bucknell on Dec. 18, and they’ll wrap up the non-league slate at home against Thiel on Dec. 20. The game against the Tomcats will be the annual Kids Day contest.
The Penguins’ Horizon League schedule should be released in the coming weeks.
