Youngstown State senior guard Alison Smolinski was named the Horizon League's Player of the Week following her performance in the Penguins' win over Saint Francis (Pa.), the conference announced on Monday.
Smolinski scored a game-high 23 points in the Penguins' 80-56 win over the Red Flash on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center. She played just 31 minutes in the contest and made six 3-pointers and five free throws to account for her 23 points. She also had three rebounds and three assists in the contest.
Smolinski has been hot of late from beyond the 3-point arc, she broke the school record by making nine at Canisius on Dec. 1 and has made 37 for the year. In the past two games she is 15-of-27 from 3-point range. Through games played as of Dec. 9, she ranks second in Division I in 3-pointers made, fourth in attempts and fourth in makes per contest. She trails only Oklahoma's Taylor Robertson in total 3s. Robertson has made 40 in nine games this year.
The Penguins are next in action on Tuesday, Dec. 18 when they visit Bucknell.
