The Youngstown State bowling team won its first three Baker matches and finished the first day of the Crusader Classic fourth in total pins. The tournament is being held at Lakewood Bowl in Richton Park, Ill.

Due to a major snowstorm in the area, the format of the tournament changed from what was originally intended. Each of the three days of the Crusader Classic will be scored as a separate tournament now, and Sunday's schedule will be three Baker matches with placing determined by total pinfall. Saturday will still feature five traditional team games.

The Penguins totaled 4,452 pins in their five Baker matches, which put them ahead of three ranked teams. YSU started the day strong with 1,903 pins through their first two matches, which put them just five pins out of first place. Youngstown State ended up 35 pins behind third-place Central Missouri, and Nebraska and Wisconsin-Whitewater pulled away over the last three games to claim the top two spots.

Youngstown State beat Elmhurst 956-722 in the first match of the tournament, and it followed that up with a 947-816 victory over Augustana. YSU then topped Lincoln University 858-746 before falling 1,013-855 to the top-ranked Huskers and 982-836 to No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
