The Youngstown State bowling team had another solid performance at the Crusader Classic on Saturday as it won three matches and placed fourth in total pins. The event is being held at Lakewood Bowl in Richton Park, Ill.
The Penguins totaled 4,474 pins in five traditional matches on Saturday, following up their 4,452 in Baker play on Friday. YSU will have three more Baker matches on Sunday to try and catch third-place Central Missouri, which it trails by 60 pins.
Sophomore Emily Dietz was the Penguins’ top individual finisher for the second straight tournament with a five-game total of 934. She topped 170 in all five games and had YSU’s highest game of the day with a 218 in the final match against Lincoln Memorial. Nikki Mendez bowled a pair of 200 games and finished with a 924, Rachel Darrow bowled an 897 and Emma Dockery totaled 865.
Youngstown State began the day with a 925-879 win over No. 25 Valparaiso, and it followed that with an 841-735 victory over Alabama A&M. YSU’s first loss of the day came to No. 15 Central Missouri, 962-909, and the Penguins rebounded to beat Monmouth 929-879 for its third win. YSU dropped its final match 987-870 to No. 24 Lincoln Memorial.
