Bowling Goes 3-2 in Baker Matches at James Brown Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team won three Baker matches and finished the first day of the James Brown Invitational eighth in total pinfall. The tournament is being held at AMF Towson Lanes and is being hosted by Morgan State.

The Penguins went 3-2 in head-to-head matches and averaged 177 over its 25 Baker games. YSU won its first two matches, beating Virginia State 932-855 and Howard 917-783. The Penguins then fell back to even for the day with a 953-874 loss to Morgan State and a 953-826 setback to Norfolk State. YSU rebounded to win its final match 872-847 over Fayetteville State.

YSU will enter Saturday's traditional team matches with a great opportunity to move up in the standings as it trails third place by just 106 pins. Fairleigh Dickinson tops the standings at 4,865, and Monmouth is second at 4,809.

Saturday's action will begin at 10:50 a.m., and YSU is scheduled to bowl head-to-head matches against Mount Aloysius, Coppin State, Belmont Abbey and Wilmington and one round against the bye.
