Penguins Split Four Matches at James Brown Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team split its four contested traditional team games on Saturday at the James Brown Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by Morgan State at AMF Towson Lanes.

Nikki Mendez was the top scorer for the Penguins in individual play, totaling 942 pins over the five games for an average of 188.4. In addition to the highest total pinfall, she had the highest single-game score for the Penguins with a 221 in an uncontested match. Rachel Ellis ranked second on the team in total pins with a 937, and Mackenzie Olesky averaged 191.25 in four games for a total of 765.

Youngstown State totaled 836 in the bye round to start the day, and it lost 920-854 to Mount Aloysius in the first contested match. The Penguins then won back-to-back matches against Coppin State (898-838) and Belmont Abbey (901-864), and they lost 944-811 to Wilmington to close the day.

Youngstown State will enter Sunday's bracket play seeded ninth after two qualifying days. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m.
