The Youngstown State bowling team will be in action for the second straight week as it competes at the James Brown Invitational this Friday through Sunday. The tournament is being hosted by Morgan State at AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Md. The Penguins' matches will be streamed on the YSUsports YouTube Channel (pending a strong wireless signal).

Scouting The Penguins: Youngstown State is coming off one of its most solid performances of the 2017-18 season as it finished fourth at the Crusader Classic last week. YSU received votes in February's National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, and it is fighting to earn a spot in the USBC ISC & ITS Sectionals that will be held March 9-11. The Penguins have the James Brown Invitational and the Hawk Flight the first weekend of March before the sectionals. Emily Dietz has been YSU's top individual finisher in both tournaments this spring, and she's coming off a 12th-place finish at the Crusader Classic.

Tournament Format: Teams will compete in five Baker matches on Friday, five traditional team matches on Saturday and three best-of-seven Baker bracket matches on Sunday. The rounds on Friday and Saturday will begin at 10 a.m., and bracket play on Sunday will start at 9:30 a.m.

Scouting The Field: The Penguins are one of 15 teams scheduled to compete at the James Brown Invitational this weekend. The field features two ranked teams in No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson and No. 23 Fayetteville State, and YSU and Monmouth received votes in February's NTCA Top 25 poll.

Recapping the Crusader Classic: Youngstown State placed fourth in total pinfall in all three days of the Crusader Classic last weekend. In head-to-head matches, YSU went 5-2 in Baker play and 3-2 in traditional team games. The Penguins earned a pair of wins over ranked teams, beating No. 25 Valparaiso in a traditional team game and No. 22 Maryville in a Baker match on Sunday. Emily Dietz led the Penguins individually with a 12th-place finish, and Nikki Mendez and Rachel Darrow also placed in the top 20.

Next Up: Youngstown State will be off next weekend but will be back in action the first weekend in March at the Hawk Flight Invite in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
