Bowling Beats Two Ranked Teams on Traditional Day in Houston

The Youngstown State bowling team beat a pair of ranked teams in traditional matches in day two of the Track Kat Klash on Saturday. The event is being held at Emerald Lanes in Houston.

Rachel Ellis was the top individual finisher for the Penguins, placing 27th with a five-game total of 964. Four of her games were above 190, and she topped out at 217 as YSU beat No. 17 Tulane. Nikki Mendez finished 32nd with a 947 overall and a high game of 235. Ashley Kolb placed 59th, and Emily Dietz was 62nd.

Youngstown State dropped its opening match 923-887, and it fell 1,075-884 to No. 12 Delaware State. The Penguins then posted narrow back-to-back wins over No. 17 Tulane (903-888) and No. 20 Prairie View A&M 830-822). YSU's highest-scoring match was its final one, a 966 in a 60-pin loss to top-ranked McKendree.

The Penguins are seeded 16th for Sunday's bracket play and will compete against Prairie View A&M again to begin the round.
