The Youngstown State bowling team picked up two more wins and another 10th-place finish as it closed out the opening weekend at the Bud Whitman Memorial on Sunday afternoon at Berks Lanes.
The Penguins had a consistent day in traditional team play with all five of their scores falling between 842 and 871. They went 2-3 in head-to-head matches and placed 10th in total pinfall in the 20-team field for the second straight day.
The Penguins dropped their first two matches of the morning, falling 906-846 to No. 24 Kutztown and 947-842 to Wilmington. The Penguins notched their first win with an 868-815 victory over Daemen, and they evened their record with an 871-817 triumph against Coppin State. No. 8 Delaware State won the final match of the day 962-868, and the Hornets got a 278 score from their third bowler to aid in the effort.
Junior Nikki Mendez was YSU's top individual finisher, placing 24th with a five-game total of 894. Her 211 to start the day against Kutztown was the highest total by a Penguin during team play. Rachel Ellis was 20 pins behind Mendez and finished 33rd, and Emma Dockery finished 37th with an 865. Rachel Darrow and Emily Dietz tied for 47th with an 831.
Youngstown State's next tournament will be Nov. 2-4 at the Track Kat Klash in Houston.
